Google is in active talks with the govt -backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and is “exploring” ways to collaborate with it. Currently, discussions are “exploratory” and have encompassed Google’s many businesses, including search and payments.
CEO of ONDC T.Koshy stated ‘Like all the biggies, companies like Google, are talking to us to see what is the possible way in which they can participate in this journey”
A representative of Google has said that the company has been continually engaged in efforts to help India’s enormous base of small and medium companies create a digital presence and “enable discovery” across its networks and payment capabilities with Google Pay.

PhonePe and Paytm, Google Pay’s two biggest competitors, have already begun to connect their services with ONDC. Paytm’s buyer app was used to begin the network’s trial program, with the Noida-based business stating that it will pivot to the ONDC network to drive the next stage of eCommerce.
Google’s partnership with ONDC aligns with the company’s stated goal of digitizing small companies. It may also fit in nicely with Google’s bigger global e-commerce goals, and it has the potential to be grown up globally, similar to Tez, which was first released in India and then expanded to become Google Pay. Google Pay is currently used by more than 10 million retailers
