JD.com founder launches yacht brand

Richard Liu, founder of Chinese ecommerce giant JD.com, has launched a new yacht brand called Sea Expandary, focusing on producing environmentally friendly yachts.
Liu announced a 5 billion yuan (US$726 million) investment at a signing event, aiming to compete with global yacht makers.
He clarified he will not be involved in daily operations and will continue to focus on JD.com.
Sea Expandary plans to establish a manufacturing base in Zhuhai and its headquarters in Shenzhen, where it also intends to develop marinas.
The company has signed cooperation agreements with local governments in Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
China’s yacht fleet has nearly doubled in three years, reaching close to 10,000 vessels, according to transport ministry data.
