Zoom Invests in AI Startup Anthropic to Enhance Offering
- ByStartupStory | May 17, 2023
Zoom Video Communications Inc has announced an undisclosed investment in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup, with plans to incorporate Anthropic’s technology into its video-conferencing platform.
This strategic move represents Zoom’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its offerings with AI capabilities, as it continues to compete against Microsoft Teams, which currently holds a dominant position in the enterprise video-conferencing market.
As part of the partnership, Zoom will integrate Anthropic’s Claude, a powerful language model that directly competes with offerings from OpenAI (backed by Microsoft), into its video-conferencing platform.
Claude, developed by Anthropic, is designed to perform tasks similar to ChatGPT, generating human-like text responses when prompted. Initially, Claude will be incorporated into Zoom Contact Center, an existing call center service provided by Zoom.
In March, Zoom had revealed its collaboration with OpenAI, aiming to enhance its Zoom IQ assistant with AI-driven functionalities like conversation summaries and message drafts.
In February, Microsoft Teams introduced a premium edition of its application, leveraging the capabilities of ChatGPT. Similarly, Salesforce Slack has expressed its intentions to integrate ChatGPT into its collaboration software, Slack.
