Unacademy’s Chief Operating Officer Vivek Sinha Announces Departure as Company Focuses on Growth and Profitability

Vivek Sinha, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bengaluru-based education technology company Unacademy, has announced his departure from the company. Sinha shared his decision to leave Unacademy in a social media post on Saturday. He expressed gratitude for the experiences, friendships, and memories he gained during his three-year tenure at the company. Sinha’s responsibilities as COO included overseeing Unacademy’s digital test preparation business, hybrid centers, K12 education, jobs, and skills sectors.

Unacademy’s Co-founder and CEO, Gaurav Munjal, responded to Sinha’s announcement by saying – “After three incredible years at Unacademy, I have decided to take the next step in my career. Grateful for the opportunities, friendships, and memories I have gained. Thank you for believing in me and constantly pushing me to operate at the peak of my abilities Gaurav Munjal,” said Sinha.

During his time at Unacademy, Sinha managed a wide range of areas, as indicated by his LinkedIn profile, including category management, business strategy, pricing, central revenue, inside sales, content, user growth, performance marketing, SEO, retail, influencer marketing operations, supply, and learning experience. He joined Unacademy in 2020 after serving as the head of a separate business unit at hospitality startup OYO, where he managed luxury hotels within the OYO-SoftBank joint venture. Sinha’s professional background also includes working with Mobikwik and co-founding a construction technology company called Buildzar.

Unacademy recently announced the elevation of Sumit Jain, Co-founder and CEO of the creator growth vertical called Graphy, to a partner position within the company. This move aligns with the co-founder role for individuals who joined the company at a later stage.

Established by Gaurav Munjal in 2015, Unacademy has been working towards achieving profitability. The company implemented cost-cutting measures earlier this year, including layoffs and salary reductions for senior leadership. Despite challenges in its core test-prep business, Unacademy reported growth in offline and hybrid centers. This contributed to the company’s registered revenue increasing from Rs 992 crore in the previous year to Rs 1,250 crore in CY2023 at the group level.
