Uber and Aaveg Secure Licences to Launch Premium Bus Services in Delhi

Ride-hailing giants Uber and Aaveg have received official licences from the Delhi transport department to operate “premium bus services” across the city. This move is part of the Delhi government’s broader initiative to reduce the use of private vehicles and curb pollution.

Uber, which currently operates Uber Shuttle in Kolkata and has been running a pilot bus service in Delhi since 2023, is expected to launch its premium bus services imminently. Aaveg, an app-based shuttle service already operational in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida, plans to begin its new service offering post the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to CEO Vivek Laroia.

The introduction of these services is set to revolutionize commuting in the capital. The premium buses will feature air conditioning, WiFi, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and reclining seats, ensuring a comfortable and secure travel experience for passengers.

This initiative follows the approval of a premium bus service scheme by the Delhi government in October 2023. The scheme is designed to enhance public transport infrastructure and promote safer travel options, especially for women. Aggregators like Uber and Aaveg are required to implement comprehensive safety measures, including a rapid response mechanism and functional panic buttons integrated with law enforcement agencies for immediate redressal of complaints.

An Uber official highlighted that passengers will be able to book rides directly through the Uber app, with the option to reserve seats up to a week in advance, offering greater convenience and planning flexibility for daily commuters.

The new premium bus services by Uber and Aaveg are anticipated to provide a high-quality alternative to private vehicle use, contributing significantly to the reduction of traffic congestion and pollution in Delhi.

For further updates and booking details, commuters are encouraged to stay tuned to announcements from both Uber and Aaveg.
