TCS to Secure New Deals Worth $1B with Marks & Spencer

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the leading exporter of information technology services in India, is anticipated to finalize more contracts worth $1 billion with Marks and Spencer, a British retailer offering a range of products from food to clothing in the near future.

The latest report suggests that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Marks and Spencer are on the verge of closing multiple new deals, in addition to the contract renewal signed in 2018. As an established partner, TCS is expected to secure these deals in the near future. For more than a decade, TCS has been instrumental in transforming the human resource operations of the British retailer, catering to over 80,000 employees. Additionally, TCS has leveraged the Oracle supply chain management platform to provide solutions for Marks and Spencer.

In January, Marks and Spencer disclosed its intention to create over 3,400 new job opportunities by opening new stores, after significant shop closures and workforce reduction due to the pandemic. The British retailer stated that it plans to launch 20 new large stores in different locations across the UK, following the elimination of 7,000 jobs during Covid lockdowns. Marks and Spencer has committed £480 million ($585 million) to this ambitious project.

Marks and Spencer’s plans to open 20 new large stores across the UK in response to job losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, are expected to generate over 3,400 new job opportunities by 2022. Despite the company’s strong performance during the Christmas period, shares in M&S have declined by a third since last year due to cost pressures and macroeconomic headwinds.

In response to Brexit, M&S has shut down more than half of its stores in France, and the company also exited from Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. AJ Bell’s Russ Mould believes that maintaining momentum in the face of rising costs and increased pressure on household budgets will be a critical test for M&S management.
