Bengaluru Firm Offers ChatGPT Plus Subscription as Gift to Boost Employee Productivity

The use of generative AI-powered platforms, such as ChatGPT and Bing Chat, is raising concerns about potential job displacement. However, some companies are leveraging these technologies to enhance productivity, as demonstrated by Bengaluru-based investing firm Capitalmind, which reported a five-fold increase in worker productivity after implementing ChatGPT. The company is even reimbursing employees for their ChatGPT Plus subscription costs. According to Vashistha Iyer, COO of Capitalmind, AI chatbots like ChatGPT will render junior analyst roles obsolete in forward-thinking firms, requiring newcomers to develop expertise in leveraging AI to remain relevant. Iyer cautions that mediocrity will have no place in this new AI-driven landscape.

Generative AI chatbots have gained widespread acceptance since the launch of ChatGPT, powered by GPT-3, towards the end of last year. The platform provides quick and conversational solutions to intricate queries. Although virtual assistants like Google Assistant and Apple Siri have existed for some time, AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bing Chat can offer responses that resemble human-like communication by thoroughly analyzing inputs. Currently, ChatGPT can only comprehend text inputs, but there is ample room for improvement in the future.

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has recently launched the GPT-4 language module that boasts faster and more precise capabilities. ChatGPT Plus, the paid version of the free-to-use ChatGPT, is powered by the GPT-4 module. While GPT-4 is still undergoing testing, it has already demonstrated the ability to comprehend visual inputs. Moreover, ChatGPT Plus is designed to operate more efficiently and receives priority access to the latest features over the standard model.

Despite concerns about potential job displacement, some prominent figures in the tech industry have lauded generative AI tools like ChatGPT. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, for instance, described OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the second-most groundbreaking innovation he has witnessed after the development of Windows OS I for modern-day PCs in a blog post on the “Age of AI.” Additionally, a San Francisco-based AI startup, Anthropic, is offering an attractive salary of up to USD 335,000 per year (2.7 crores) for the positions of Prompt Engineer and Librarian, which will require skilled AI platform prompt engineers.

Despite the praise for generative AI tools like OpenAI’s GPT-4, some notable tech pioneers, such as Tesla’s Elon Musk and Apple’s Steve Wozniak, are calling for a six-month moratorium on developing systems that surpass its capabilities. Along with other individuals, the duo signed an open letter that warns of the potential consequences of advanced AI, stating that “it could lead to a significant shift in the history of life on Earth and requires commensurate care and resources for planning and management.” Unfortunately, the letter also notes that such preparation and management are currently inadequate.
