AWS to introduce specialised programs catering to healthcare and logistics startups

AWS India Private Limited‘s Head of Startup Ecosystem, Amitabh Nagpal, has announced that AWS (Amazon Web Services) is planning to launch specialised programs for Indian startups focused on healthcare and logistics.

Nagpal, stated that “AWS plans to team up with notable venture capital partners for these specialised initiatives”. Additionally, Nagpal mentioned that “unicorn founders in certain fields have expressed interest in offering mentorship to support the ecosystem, hinting at a potential partnership with a major logistics company”.

AWS’s specialised programs offer assistance to startups in various stages, ranging from pre-seed to late-stage. The support provided covers a broad range of areas, such as product development, go-to-market strategies, and industry connections, as well as access to dedicated AWS support, including guidance and mentorship from established founders and investors.

The sector-specific structured programs offered by AWS are developed through collaborations with various entities, including VC firms such as Prime Ventures and Nexus Venture Partners, angel investors, incubators, and accelerators.

These programs, such as SaaS Central and ML Elevate, are popular examples of specialised programs aimed at assisting SaaS and early-stage machine learning (ML) startups, and are designed to last several months.

According to Nagpal,  “their programs will evolve over time to provide ongoing support to startups at different stages of development. While the company is enthusiastic about fintech, AI, and ML startups, it plans to expand into other areas, such as preventive healthcare and insurtech, driven by government initiatives such as the National Health Stack”.

AWS has been increasing its focus on mentorship initiatives and providing exposure to startup founders globally. As an example, during the recently concluded SaaS Central program, AWS selected 24 early-stage and rapidly expanding SaaS startups, provided them with mentorship and networking opportunities, and took them to the United States. The program also helped these startups understand how they can expand and grow by scaling to global markets.

According to Nagpal, “the company has provided more than $2 billion in AWS credits since 2020 to assist early-stage startups in launching and growing their businesses. With over 200 services available for startups to build upon, AWS offers a great platform for experimentation and innovation, all while keeping costs low”.

Nagpal believes that cloud computing is a democratising force and a driving factor for innovation.
