The global investment company SoftBank has recently elevated Sumer Juneja, the head of operations in India to the Managing Partner position of the investment firm. This announcement comes after a record breaking year of investments in Indian startups where the Japanese investment firm infused close to $3 billion.
Sumer joined SoftBank in 2018 as a partner and head of India and has led prominent investments in startups such as Swiggy, social commerce app Meesho and ed-tech firm Eruditus. Prior to joining SoftBank, he worked in US headquartered venture capital firm Norwest Venture as director-India office.

Juneja has been credited for setting up the India division of SoftBank along with diversifying its portfolio beyond e-commerce, ride-hailing and back up startups to ed-tech, B2B and SaaS thus making it an extremely bustling year for the startup.
Along with Juneja, SoftBank has also elevated three other individuals to the position of Managing Partner namely Lydia Jett, Vikas Parekh and Dennis Chang. Jett is the first woman managing partner on the fund’s investing team. She has led investments in Flipkart and specialised in e-commerce with bets like Coupang under her belt.
The elevation comes amid a slew of departures in the senior ranks of SoftBank Vision Fund. Deep Nishar, a senior managing partner at the firm, left recently.
