Nestle partners up with vegan startup Sundial Foods

The Swiss-conglomerate Nestle aims to take the vegan meat craze to the next level by developing vegan meat with actual bones and skin.

Nestle announced that it has led a funding round of $4 billion for Sundial Foods, a San Francisco based vegan startup that produces imitation chicken meat.  The investment was made into the vegan startup after the latter’s successful collaboration as a part of Nestle’s research and development accelerator programme.

The funds raised through the recent funding round would be utilized by the startup to expand the company and roll out its chicken wings to the market by spring 2022.

For Nestle, the collaboration marks the extension of its interest in meat alternatives. In July, the conglomerate announced its partnership with Israeli cell-based startup, Future Meat Technologies.

Talking about her startup and its mission, the co-founder of Sundial Foods, Jessica Schwabach said, “Our goal is to create an experience that’s not only nutritious but genuinely enjoyable and worthy of being center-of-plate for the consumer. That’s why we have the plant-based skin for that extra crispiness and texture, and even the bone so consumers can fully enjoy and experience a plate of wings with everything but the animal.”
