India’s Wipro Enterprises eyes semiconductor entry

Wipro Enterprises is exploring entry into semiconductor manufacturing via outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT), people familiar with the matter told The Economic Times.
Wipro Enterprises is part of the Wipro Group and operates as a separate entity with two divisions: Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting and Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN).
Discussions are at an early exploratory stage and the company is scouting for a credible technology partner, the sources said.
Other Indian groups have unveiled OSAT projects, notably the HCL Group’s OSAT facility in Uttar Pradesh in a joint venture with Foxconn, the Tata Group’s OSAT facility in Assam, and the Murugappa Group’s CG Semi, which has inaugurated the first unit of OSAT project in Sanand, Gujarat, with Renesas and Stars Microelectronics.
