India-focused Mobile webtoon startup: TOONSUTRA closes pre-seed round for $1.1 million

The India-focused mobile webtoon startup, TOONSUTRA, which has been incubating in stealth mode, announced on Wednesday that it has closed an oversubscribed Pre-Seed round for $1.1 million. The new startup was incubated at Graphic India, the character entertainment company, and was founded by Sharad Devarajan, a media entrepreneur.
With a mission to become India’s new storytelling home for disruptive creators across the country in order to experiment, innovate and create engaging webtoon comic stories and digital collectibles for India’s 650 million+ mobile youth market, TOONSUTRA is building ‘Webtoons meets Web3’ platform.

Rotten Tomatoes, Co-founder, Patrick Lee; Twitch, Co-founder, Kevin Lin; Crunchyroll, Co-founder, Kun Gao; Lightspeed Venture Partners, Partner, Jeremy Liew; Kabam, Co-founder, Holly Lui; 9GAG, Co-founder, Ray Chan; Rishad Tobaccowala, Fmr. Chief Growth Officer, Publicis Group; Start Media, Founder, Michael Maher; Vishal Anand, Fmr. Chief Product Officer, Dailyhunt; CreatorPlus, Co-founder, Benjamin Grubbs; George Nolfi, filmmaker; Junglee Games, Co-founder, Sandeep Kumar Sood; and others are included as a group of global investors and entrepreneurs from whom the funds came.
Across India the platform will showcase and promote emerging rising star creators and give them a home in order to tell their stories. A wide range of content will be featured by the TOONSUTRA app for audiences across superhero, Bollywood, mythology, fantasy, romance, sci-fi, action, and more.
