Captain Fresh has raised $50 million in a Series C funding round

Captain Fresh, a B2B animal protein marketplace, has secured $50 million in a Series C fundraising round headed by Prosus Ventures and Tiger Global.

Existing investors Accel India, Matrix Partners India, Ankur Capital, and Incubate Fund also participated in the round. This was the company’s third investment in a year, with the last one being in December 2021.

Captain Fresh is a farm-to-retail platform for animal protein such as fish, shrimp, and sheep that launched in 2019 as a seafood marketplace. It focuses on gathering retail demand across the country and connecting it with agents and farmers. It’s a tech-enabled distribution network with over 2,500 retail locations in over 20 Indian cities.

With this funding, the firm hopes to expand into Africa, the Middle East, and other regions of Asia. It has previously stated that it plans to start in the US and Europe in the following quarter, as well as grow in states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

Furthermore, since its Series B financing in December 2021, the firm has more than quadrupled its sales, according to the company.
