Andreessen Horowitz launches its $600 gaming fund


Andreesen Horowitz, a Venture Capital firm (a16z) has recently announced the launch of its new gaming fund called GAMES FUND ONE, which would deploy $600 million in in-game studios, gaming-related apps and infrastructure. The new fund will play a significant role in the fast-growing gaming world. The funds will be led by the general partners Andrew Chen, Jon Lai and James Gwertzman.

In the company’s blog post, the general partners detailed the fund and said that after being the company’s investor for over a decade and it is evident that the gaming industry has entered a new era and now is the best time to build a fund dedicated to supporting the future game builders.

The company was established in 2009 by Ben Horowitz and Andreessen Horowitz. The firm is also backed up by brands like King, Discord, and Roblox. However, Andreessen Horowitz already holds investments in platforms like Zynga and Meta’s Oculus. 

The firm firmly believes that the gaming industry has currently pegged at $ 300 million and that it will radically grow with the formation of the metaverse. Renowned industry experts like Jason Citron, the founder of Discord with Marc Merrill, the Riot Games’ founder and Mike Morhaime, the co-founder of Blizzard.
